Maria holds principal flute positions with the Firebird Pops Orchestra, the North Worcester County Orchestra, and the New England Film Orchestra; and she is the piccoloist for the the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra. She also plays on occasion with the Concord Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Pro Musica, Brockton Symphony Orchestra, and more.

Maria’s flute tone is described by audiences as being “warm”, “soulful”, and “rich”. She plays with “intense musicality and passion with a discerning sensitivity for both the music and her audience.” Maria has performed in many settings across the country from the Walt Disney Concert Hall to New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall; live on radio and television; in musical/ballet/opera pits and on orchestral stages; for outdoor weddings and in an eclectic mix of venues. She owns and performs often on all sizes in the flute family which include piccolo, concert flute, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes. She also plays a variety of ethnic flutes as required often in film music.

Maria teaches flute lessons and masterclasses for all ages and levels through her company, Ramey Music, in Lunenburg, MA. She is also on faculty at Fitchburg State University, teaching applied flute lesson courses through the university and directing her flute choir, “Flutephoria” through the community music program on campus. With over two decades of teaching experience and a degree in music therapy, she focuses her teaching approach on what the student’s learning style and strengths are. She also offers adaptive lessons for individuals needing extra support in a non-musical area. 

Maria holds a Master’s degree in Music Therapy (emphasis in music technology) from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy (additional emphasis in music performance) from California State University Northridge. She is a board-certified music therapist and provides services through her company, Ramey Music.
